He died on Thursday evening on May 10. He was 64 years old. A passer-by and the paramedics tried in vain to resuscitate him for two hours where he collapsed.
He was born in Munich and acted in several films of Rainer Fassbinder in the 1970s and 1980s. And featured in many series.
In 2002, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for serious extortion resulting in death. He confessed to a murder he did not commit. Günther went to jail because he wanted to protect his wife that was sick with cancer. He was acquitted in 2005 in a retrial.
He participated in RTL "Jungle camp" in an Australien bush. His last film was "Turk for beginners" and "Wickie" Michael "Bully" Herbig.
He released his autobiography, "Der weißer Neger vom Hasenberg." (The white Neger from Hasenberg).
